disable version number in mysql connection banner?

I've been trying to figure this one out for a few minutes now, but i can't find any hint of an answer.

When the user telnets to our server on port 3306 they are shown:

4.1.18-standard       =o7cls!E,xNZY0"Z~/lR5
I would like to not show the version number.
