Domain Name was stolen at registration time
We run a system called template 3.0 which for the most part is highly unmodified code provided by OnlineNic.com as part of their domain reseller program.I have seen this one time in the past where a seemingly useless, and for the most part, worthless domain to anyone besides the owner, (at least the guy that thought he was going to be the owner) was registered, at what seems to be the exact same moment if not shortly thereafter. The registration date is the same day the customer tried to register the name. At the time the customer submitted his ticket, the registration still had not propagated 5 different whois that I frequent.
Case in point:
universalplaques.com
The user conducted several whois searches on the domain and finally decided to register for it.
1. Whois still shows the domain as available.
2. User logs in and uses the template system to register the domain.
3. Gets repeated errors about how the domain registry service is currently unavailable. This error is generally displayed when there is a connection error due to time out or other network problems.
4. user submits help request reporting problem
5. I find that the domain was registered within hours (if not the same moment the user attempted to register the domain)
Coincidence? I highly doubt it.
What would anybody want that name for? now I see, a pay per click traffic aggregator.

I am calling BS on capdom.com AKA Capital Domains until I can actually use their own WHOIS to see who the registered contact is.
"I think my odds are better of winning the lotto than this being a coincidence."
(borrowed from one unhappy customer)
And I would have to agree with him. First time I saw similar I discounted it as coincidence. I am starting to not believe that theory.
Any people here seen this happen before?
