Crazy stuff happening, need advice!

Hey people... Maybe this is a bit off topic for this forum, but it involves both my server, and my website including vbulletin...

Today at about 1AM EST, I started recieving error messages that vBulletin couldn't connect to the MySQL server. I restarted the VPS and still no go. It was giving this error:
Code:
Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket ' /var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (2)
Well, my host said that aparently alot of my libraries came up missing, as if I had changed something and the installation basically came up as being broke. They're moving me to a brand new server and all (this had been schedualed to be done ANYWAY), but my personal problem is that I'm concerned that the server had been comrpimised due to either vBulletin, or Joomla! I was running on my website or even my PluggedOut Blog i was running on a subdomain...

The technician whom is working on it said he tried re-creating the socket, and rebuilding mysql, but the mysql server refused to start.. (or atleast something to that effect)

My site being down is nothing new to me, and I don't think it's my host's fault. I think it has something to do with me getting a truckload of traffic every month from actual visitors + tons and tons of seach engine spiders, and some of it being shady.

Im just not sure... what to think.. I hate downtime, it makes my site look bad, so does being slow.. which it is at times. Hopefully this new server will give me a new bed to work from, but these downtimes...
