About 5 weeks ago one of our servers started displaying named looping and causing a large load on the server. The response from the server got very low and many clients complained about connections, in fact we lost a few clients due to this issue. I and 2 other staff members took hours, days and weeks trying to find the issue.As each day went by we lost more hair and begin to drink heavier. Turning to an outsourcing management company they were unable to find any issues on the server. Having no idea what else to look for it was suggested we have cPanel look at the server as this seemed to have started after a cPanel update. They also confirmed everything seemed normal and was unable to find any issue but did confirm there was an issue.
A few more days went by and we turned to a highly qualified cPanel expert. Spending a few hours he also confirmed there was an issue but was also unable to find the problem and suggested we turn to our data center. I mean who else would be able to assist us that the very data center who can see more behind the scene than our own data center. Once again it was confirmed there was an issue but they were unable to find anything.
Now during our data center intervention we brought to their attention our server was only reporting about 450 Gigs of bandwidth used for the month but their switch reported we had used over 1500 Gigs of bandwidth. Still with this evidence we were told it was a cPanel issue not properly tracking bandwidth.
Yesterday, as I sat at my desk loading my gun I said "One more try" and Steven at rack911 came to mind. Now many have read the many threads about Steve not replying fast, missing in action, not following up which happen during a certain time frame BUT every single person on this forums can agree that he is one of the best Technicians anyone has dealt with. Steven logged into the server and within 5 minutes found the named issue. 10 minutes later with the information supplied by Steven it was fixed. While Steven was in the server he performed a few other tweaks which also help in other areas.

In closing if you know and study your servers and you see something happening but you are told there is no problem, dont take that to heart until you have http://rack911.com confirm it!
