My ISP hacked my internet explorer
HelloLast week, I changed my home ISP. They send me a package with a new modem and an installation CD.
Guess what: I installed the package, my internet connexion works but my internet explorer default page was hacked. It was replaced by the ISP's home page and I can no longer changer it from Tools > Options. They used exactly the same trick as some Casino or adult websites use to hack into some visitor's browsers.
I run all the Windows patches and an up to data antivirus. However, I was asked to disable the antivirus and the firewall to facilitate the ISP package installation.
The hacked computer is a productive machine used for of our job. It contains more than 80 important programs, each configured for years. I cannot afford a fresh Os install, but they can! I am going to hire a local tech to clean the box or re-install and configure everything from scratch then I will send them an invoice for that.
I don't know why companies doing legitimate business use such bad methods.
