freebsd 4.8 requiring user intervention for fsck
hi all,i have been colocating a freebsd 4.8 server at a data center for quite some time now. after a make buildworld/make buildkernal and a failed make installkernel/installworld to upgrade to freebsd 5.0 remotely, the server crashes from time-to-time these days requiring user intervention at startup.
the first time this occured, i had gone down to the data center and checked, and found that it was just fsck requiring user intervention. as such, i had edited the start-up conf file to ensure that startup fsck is run with -Y in future so that user intervention will no longer be required. however, just yesterday, the server has just crashed again, and this looks like i'd need another trip down to the data center to remedy this. does anyone know how i can fix it? apparently my amendment for fsck to run with -Y still requires a user intervention.
does anyone know how i can enable fsck to run without user intervention or should i simply reinstall a copy of freebsd 5 ontop of it?
i am considering a switch to openbsd, do u fellow sysadmins have any suggestions?
