high load/high iowait/ once a day
I had my "managed" dedicated server host look into this and i'm not entirely sure their answer is correct so I thought I would throw this out here for feedback, i appreciate any help - advicethe problem
for probably over a week now, everyday around the same time 3-5pm eastern US my server will spike in load all the way up to 150+ and my iowait will spike up into the 90% range, the server will become unresponsive for a period of 20-30 minutes and then everything will die down to normal ranges
the answer from my provider
that I have too many mysql connection to one of my forums database, this is their answer even though i explained twice that it happens everyday at certain times, I do admit, its a busy forum but the time of day my problem occurs is one of the least busy, with maybe 50-100 total users online, later in the night when there are 200-300 users online i have no problems with the server, it handles the load fine with load hovering around 3-4. and iowait maybe spkiking to 10 everyonce in awhile
what I thought it was
i thought maybe it has something to do with the centos/kernal bug i have read about recently but checking it seems my kernal isnt one affected
this happened one time before a couple of months ago around the same time i had serverwizards upgrade my kernal and secure the box, the symtoms went away but now are back
