redundant VPS on two networks?
Can someone please help me with this one?Would it be worth it to get a second VPS, identical to my existing one, but with another provider, on a totally different network? For redundancy? And then have them act as a cluster? A few things I want to mention is this:
- If server 1 goes down (for whatever reason) server two will take over almost instantly (with round robin DNS, I think?)
- There's a live backup of any site, at any given time?
- If the server is being hacked / spammed, only one IP address / set of IP addresses will be affected?
- The support desk for any site could be on both servers (if one goes down, the support desk will still be operational)
Has anyone dones something like this before? Is it workable? Would it be rather "heavy" on the bandwidth?
Is is still necessary to run backups? And if so, I take it off-site backups (maybe a 3rd host) would be best?
