Strange webmail connectivity problems
Hello. The system specs called for in the Sticky appear at the bottom of this message.
I just started using hostingZoom, and have an odd problem trying to access my webmail and Cpanel pages.
To preface, my day job is at a large company with offices all over the world. We use VPN to access network assets located at other offices; we also use VPN when we're offsite to access all company network assets.
We have no problem accessing the web regardless of whether we're using VPN or not (except that VPN seems to cause a performance hit). Basically, though, we leave VPN off unless we require interoffice connectivity.
Now, what I'm finding is that when I try to log into webmail or cPanel, I can't connect to the login (or other) screen unless I have my VPN turned on. So, in short:
VPN on: Whole WWW okay, including mydomain.com/webmail (and control panel)
VPN off: Whole WWW okay, except mydomain.com/webmail (or control panel)
The only thing I can think of is that the port numbers have something to do with it. Unlike my former provider, logging into cPanel/webmail results in entering through a port other than 80: some weird, four-digit port number. (By contrast, my old webmail was just a regular URL, with no exotic port numbers.)
Could this non-port-80 attempt at connection be the wrench in the works? I'm tearing my hair out trying to troubleshoot this.
Thanks for any and all intelligent answers!
