Dedicated MySQL server. What hardware/OS is best?
I will be getting a dedicated server for mysql for a new project we are working on.
The server will only be used for MySQL (the apache/php will be on another server).
It is very likely this mysql server will be heavily loaded.
So I need it to be setup so that it can handle the maximum queries/users as possible.
Is it better to get multiple cheap servers then one powerful one?
What hardware does mysql most require to run best?
eg. Is CPU more important then RAM?
will adding more RAM give any significant performance boost?
does the hard drive speed matter? is it better to use raid 0?
In my experience in web hosting, i have noticed that FreeBSD can handle alot more users per server without problems then linux. But I have no experience with a dedicated mysql server.
Which OS will give the best performance for mysql?
