IP Migration advice needed
Hey Folks,we have a rack in a local data center and 1 switch + 1 firewall and 1 active server (Cpanel on Centos4) and I have physical access to the rack 24/7. We're being put on a private vlan so will be receiving completely new IPs and I need some advice in order to best prepare for the migration.
Updating the network/IP on the switch and firewall are easy - I'll just do it by connecting to their serial console ports (and use a program like HyperTerminal).
However updating the IP information on the active server (approx. 50 active accounts / domains) is not quite as straight forward and I need to reduce the downtime as much as possible.
I was thinking of changing the 'TTL' value for all zones hosted on this server to maybe 1 hour a few days before the ip migration - any downside to doing this? Would anyone have a shell script ready to do this ie. change TTL values to 1 hour for all hosted zones .. ?
Now changing the IPs on the server will have to be done using cpanel's "IP Migration Wizard" - has anyone used it before and have you had any problems with it?
Any caveats you think are worth mentioning ?
My main concern is reducing downtime for the hosted domains ..
