DSL router and still use WinPoET
Not really related to web hosting, but I'm hoping you guys can shed some light on this:My dad's office is connected to the internet via an ADSL modem. He's on a pay-by-the-hour scheme, and logs on and off using the WinPoET application. Currently, the ADSL modem is connected directly to one of the PCs.
Recently, he expressed interest in sharing that connection amongst the few PCs and notebooks in the office. I got him an SMC Barricade router, one with an integrated USB print server as he would like to share the office printer as well.
After setting it up for him today, I noted that the SMC router configuration application requires one to input the ADSL account's username and password into the config, and the router will use this information to dial in automatically whenever the user tries to access the internet. There is an "idle time" setting, that allows the router to drop the connection when there is 'x' number of minutes of inactivity.
When my father learned this, he got worried. He had gotten used to using WinPoET to log on and off, and he would like to keep it that way. (He finds it safer to key in the password each time, and have the tray icon conveniently around to remind him that the connection is on and stay as a reminder for him to log off after use)
Is there a way he can still keep on using the WinPoET app to log on and off, and yet share the internet connection with all the PCs?
