private nameserver question

Regarding private nameservers where a client is using ns1/ns2.domain.com with static IP's per ns1/ns2, what is the proper method of the client applying private dns with their registrar?

I usually setup their nameservers with ns1/ns2.theirdomain.com and a static IP per ns1/ns2 as well, provide them all these and tell them to apply with their registrar.

A lot of times they complain that their registar says the nameservers are invalid on my end, which is 100% incorrect.

What is the proper action that a client must take to use private dns? I tell them to apply both ns1/ns2.domain.com and each ns1/ns2 IP address must be applied TO the ns1/ns2 as well (anyone use Godaddy, you understand there is a nameserver summary area, then there is the domain host summary area where you apply the IP's per ns1/ns2).

Anyone?
