Doubt about disk space?!

Hi.. i´m wondering:

Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/hda3 109G 77G 28G 74% /
/dev/hdc1 74G 39G 32G 55% /backups

Why my server is using 77G and not 39GB maximum considering that I actually have daily, weekly, monthly backups on /dev/hdc1?

I´m using cpanel/centos.
