Entirely blocking APNIC and RIPE networks?
Because of the fact that my website's most important constiuency is located in New England (primarily) and then the rest of the United States (secondarily), I have opted to block the entire netblocks of IP addresses emanating from APNIC (Asia Pacific) and RIPE (Most of Europe). The reason for this lies in the fact that while there may be a few legitimate hits from those areas, they are completely sacrificial. The majority of traffic the site sees from these areas of the world are robots trying to harvest email addressses for spam purposes. Hopefully this measure should curtail this problem for users while not affecting 99.9% of the site's valued visitors.Has anybody else ever done something like this?
I blocked two Class A IP ranges:
62.* and 58.*
Is this the right thing to do?
