Buggy BMC?
I just got my Dell PowerEdge 850 that comes with a BMC with IPMI 1.5 compliancy, tested it out with Dell's supplied remote management programs. But after only about a day, found that I'm increasingly having errors accessing the BMC.More often then not, I keep getting "Error(0xa1):Connection Timeout." errors when trying to issue commands to it. Looking through the forums, I find people having the DRAC card having similar problems??
I tried rebooting the machine manually through the OS, turning it off and then on again via the on/off button on the box, as well as turning the box on OR off, and then issuing the command to test it again, in both states.
It seemed that there isn't any particular trigger for the phenomenon, as going through the above tries, it sometimes works, and sometimes didn't. I even tried to physically unplug the power cable (as some have tried, and said it's the only way to get it working again), and again, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
Any one else have the same problem, and know what is wrong? I'm currently setting up the system at home and will be installing the server at the DC in a couple of days, would appreciate any answers.
