One of my XP machines has been having an odd issue reading discs lately. When a disc is inserted, autoplay does nothing even though it's enabled on the drive. In My Computer, the name of the drive changes from DVD-RW Drive to CD-Rom drive or DVD-Rom drive depending on the type of disc inserted, but it doesn't show the name of the disc or show the right picture. Furthermore, sometimes it doesn't show any contents of the disc until I tell properties to Propagate the files, then they're readable. It also has problems showing the right size of the disc.
I know this isn't the drive as I tested another one in the system. Does this sound like a Windows issue or is the IDE channel on its way out?
By the way, I also copied several files from the CD (on one of the few occasions where I could actually see them) and it seemed to work fine.
