Website going down sporadically (server up though)
I have several servers with Layeredtech. Each server basically has basically 1 active site on it, resources are not being stressed, and the server load is not high.
On several occasions & servers, I've noticed lately that sometimes my site will go down for no apparent reason. I can still access the server (WHM), and I can still ping the site (exact url, not the server ip) from dnsstuff.com (I can't ping from my own machine though
). This appears to happen to some other people who are trying to access my site as well... This has only happened to me on LayeredTech servers, and a couple of times my sites have been inaccessible to me for days (Relatively small sites, so the damage was minimal/none). None the less, this is rather, disconcerting as it appears to be happening on basically every LT server I own, and is preventing me from purchasing more...
When my sites were down, I attempted to access them via a proxy browser, and I was able to access them.
I contacted LT regarding this, and they said that it may be caused by outages outside of their network. My ISP is Time Warner (Road Runner). According to this explanation it is not their fault, but can I do anything about it? I know I can fix it for myself, but how do I fix it for my users?
This appears to occur rather often (several times a day, and sometimes goes out for days...). Is there anything else that could be wrong? How can I fix it?
I understand this is probably not an issue on LT's end (server is still up, WHM is still accessible, etc...), so I hope no one takes this as a negative comment against LT. I'm just looking for someone to shed some light on my issue.
