Disabling swap in Fedora

I need to disable swap on my Fedora box for a bit. (I'm remotely installing Gentoo over Fedora, so I'm trying to format the 1GB swap partition as a normal ext2 partition to work from.)

Where in Fedora do I tell it not to mount swap at boot? (I can run swapoff, but I apparently have to boot without touching swap in order for fdisk to let me reformat it as ext2.) I can't figure out where at boot time the swap space is actually initialized.

Thanks in advance for your help!
