Moving MySQL to /home... is it secure ?

I am having a problem with my /var partition. It is running out of space constantly. So I thought I would move MySQL and create a directory link from var/lib/mysql to the new folder. First I thought I should move it to /usr but this partition is full, too. So I thought I'd move it to /home but is this safe and will it work on a Linux server with Cpanel ? I mean could a hacker maybe get access to the new MySQL dir more easily or are there any other reasons why I shouldn`t do that ?

Or is there an easy way to change the size of a partition without deleting it's content i.e. taking away some space from /home and assigning it to /var. Is this something I can do without deleting files ?

The server is Centos, Cpanel and /home is the only partition that has enough space left.
