I run a system in linux and have tables in a MySQL database which hold personal user information such as emails. Is there any way to password protect these tables from other people that have root access to my server such as my hosting company? I am not concerned that my hosting company will take this information but think that I owe it to my website users to keep their information as safe as possible.
