Generating and automating FTP backup...

We've got a dedicated server and would like to automate generating of full website backups and then also automating the FTP session to a remote server to store the backup?

I know this is possible and we are already doing through cpanel backup generation option but if it could be automated through some type of script(cron job) it would really help and save time.
