How to create sub-domains through PHP

Hello,

Is there a way to create sub-domains through PHP?

I am fairly good at PHP but a novice as far servers, DNS etc. are concerned. Can anybody give me some pointers or help?

  1. What is required to be managed to add sub-domains?
  2. Is this possible through PHP?
  3. If it can be done through PHP, will it work on all servers?
