Using Free

Quick question about free -- I know that a lot of people misinterpret the results, so I want to make sure I'm not doing it too.

The first number is the amount of physical RAM available, no? ie, my desktop machine reports "774660" (I have 768 MB RAM).

So would this not mean I have 256 MB (instead of the 512 I purchased):
