paypal variables

I remember reading somewhere about paypal passing variables / transaction info to your return (/thank you) page. But I've looked on the paypal site and else where and can't find anything.

Anybody know how to do this?

I want to take some info from after the transaction is completed and the user is sent to my return url, and do various things with it. I've looked at the IPN stuff, but that doesn't seem like what I want.

I know I saw something about transaction details being passed to the return url, and that's all I want to do (grab trans id, or name, etc.)
