Performance of xinetd based pop3s server?

Hello-

Is running an xinetd based pop3/imap server suitable for a web hosting company? Or is the overhead required probably unacceptable? It seems the simplest secure pop3 solution on RH 7.2 is to use pop3s under xinetd, but i am concerned about the performance impact of using xinetd.

Any thoughts/comments would be appreciated!

Jake
