Maintenance of Shared Hosting SQL 2000/2005

Wonder how do you guys do the maintenance for shared hosting SQL 2000/2005? Do you just let the customers do the maintenance, compacting and optimizing themselves or do you scheduled a task to do that?

Till now I had let my clients do that. But some clients it seemed do not really know much about this. But if we were to compact or optimize all the databases by task scheduling, I am worried that it is something against their privacy.
